A counselor is a person who helps and guide people when they are undergoing a transitional or difficult period in their lives. Depending on the settings, this can be an ongoing job for marriage counseling or a one-time meeting for school counseling. An individual can do counseling as a part time job with his current profession. For example psychiatrists or doctor can do counseling while working at hospitals and clinics.

The job of a counselor is to assist people with family, personal, mental health, educational, and career problems. According to their occupational specialty or profession in which they work, their duties vary.

As there are many types of counselors available depending on the profession, a student counselor or you can call him as educational counselor who guides people in solving their educational or career related problems. Counselors interact with student individually, as entire class or in a group.
